Absolutely right and that's where Alien electric bicycle kits come in! Of course I'd like you to buy a new Alien Special but what's the point when you can take your existing bike and easily convert into either a Road Legal electric bike or a rip roaring, snarling off road machine capable of 30+ mph without pedalling!?
Everything you need to do the conversion, including the battery packs, is available from the Alien online, secure, shops. The only exception to this is that these are universal kits so you may need additional nuts or bolts dependent upon your particular bike.
The kits are available either as a complete kit including the battery or, with the 36v Off Road kits, you can choose either a 36v SLA battery pack or a 36v Lithium Ion pack.

Not too mechanically minded? Well, you really don't have to be but each electric bicycle kit has easy to follow instructions which can be downloaded from the site so if you're not too sure, have a look at the "Downloads" page and check out the instructions.
From having supplied these kits for the last few years, I've a good idea what the drawbacks are in trying to convert normal bikes so with these kits I've eliminated them as much as I can. I've chosen a front wheel conversion rather than a rear wheel because you are then free to use your existing gearing and the complete back end can stay as it is.
The controllers are enclosed in the same bracket assembly which is used to hold the battery or are in their own bag so they are up high and away from most of the British weather. In fact, the controllers are completely sealed in any case! I have also designed each electric bicycle kit so that any components are easily replaceable and importantly, to do so, no specialist electrical or mechanical knowledge is required. This even includes, if you were really unfortunate, replacing the motor.
