A 36v Lithium Ion Powered Tricycle....

 

Every now and then I'm asked to do a "special" for someone who has a particular problem in riding a two wheel bike either through illness, injury or, indeed, age.

I'm sorry to say that, normally, I just don't have the time and have to say no. However, I've come up with a way of producing an electric tricycle which doesn't cause a huge problem in time to build and provides what I think may be a viable solution for many of the problems and difficulties which are reported to me.

I've used the 36 Volt 10Ah Lithium Ion Battery Pack which is used in the Alien Kits along with a 250 Watt Suzhou Bafang 8Fun U.K. Legal Motor in the 24" Front Wheel. Along with a 15Ah controller this turns out to be one of the most powerful bikes I do - it even surprised me!

I've had to use the potentiometer in the controller to restrict the speed to a legal 15mph as a speed of 20mph+ was attained along the flat under power alone. This is a powerful machine and I would suggest, because of the trikes architecture, that no tweaking of the controller is attempted!

 As with all AlienOcean models, the trike can be used on the throttle from a standstill so, if you live somewhere flat, you might not have to pedal at all!   But, even if you have to pedal going up a hill, this particular bike has a Shimano six speed set which is low geared and has proved to be more than adequate for most hills.

However, I'm afraid that an Alien "special" is never going to be cheap though. It uses the best of electronics available to me and takes up quite a bit of time to do so these bikes are a little bit more than other Alien bikes! However, I believe that it's still a fair price for what is truly a specialised piece of kit.
